Conservative patriotism apparently has its limits.
Just ask the folks in Bastrop, Texas, population 7,218.
US Special Forces are soon set to begin Jade Helm 15, a huge multi-state training exercise (Texas, Arizona, New Mexico, Utah) to help our troops fight effectively.
But, some Bastropians, and others, see a “darky” purpose in the camo and humvee crowd:
The knee-grow in the White House is poised to declare martial law and take over the country.
As a final insult, Gov. Greg Abbott has called for the Texas State Guard to monitor the training exercise.
The Night of September 11th
Everyone knows where they were that day.
I was working at the International Association of Fire Fighters in Washington, DC.
I left to go home at 10:30 PM that night, riding my bicycle.
My chosen route took me down to West Potomac Park where you could clearly see the Pentagon still burning across the river.
I rode up the bike trail and exited onto Pennsylvania Ave near Georgetown.
It was a shocking sight, at first.
There was a heavy military presence at the intersections with armed sentries.
I remember thinking we are at war.
War Ready
We have literally been at war since then asking our men and women to travel far from home to fight and die to protect our land and lives.
If you care about their mission and you really care about them, you are prepared to be inconvenienced here at home in order that they may be safe abroad.
That means supporting their training because it makes them ready to fight and win.
How utterly unpatriotic, bizarre even, to assume that American troops training to protect us are instead part of some vast conspiracy to deny our freedom.
When Racism “Trumps” a Love of America
The ultra conservative- tea party – cracker head – ethos is irreducibly racist in nature.
When confronted with the need to support our troops preparing for war they warp it instead into a vast conspiracy where the knee-grow in the White House has convinced the Joint Chiefs to wage war on us.
Cracker head racism may be fear-based but it’s still enough to make you want to throw up.
Especially when you know that their evil ways disrupt the American readiness for war.
And, most of all, are an insult to the troops we depend on to keep us safe.
