We Will, Of Course
A reader asked the question regarding a possible legal action filed against IAFF President for Life and Our Dear Leader (ODL) Harold Schaitberger.
Given what we know about how Our Dear Leader operates, it’s quite likely that the same firm representing the IAFF would also represent him; possibly even the same counsel, conflict of interest be damned.
Over the last 16 years the IAFF and Our Dear Leader have melded into a single indivisible entity.
This was made possible by his well-known tactics of either buying off the board or scaring them to death.
He also relentlessly wines and dines affiliate leaders so that they do his bidding or stand by silently.
More than one person bitterly regrets the day they had dinner with Harold Schaitberger.
Having the same legal firm represent both the IAFF and ODL is an obvious conflict and terrible for the IAFF, but that is what surely will happen.
After all, if the IAFF and ODL are one and the same, it’s the natural outcome.
Schaitberger could care less about conflict of interest.
Remember, this is the guy who, when he wanted to buy a fancy second home in a real estate market covering two states and the District of Columbia, just happened to buy his million-dollar property from someone who does substantial business with the IAFF.
Quite a coincidence.
Then, when the US Department of Labor pointed out his failure to disclose his coincidence, the IAFF hired an attorney who assisted in gutting the weak and anemic conflict rules we had.
We paid for it all and we will pay for this, as well.
Harold Schaitberger has us pay for everything; don’t forget, this is the guy who put the purchase of a Scrabble game on his expense report.
He puts in for a daily $80 per diem even when the IAFF buys his every meal, another obvious conflict.
This is what happens when a dishonest narcissist reigns supreme over a cowering do-nothing board.
Who is to blame?
We are.
We let it happen.
